Surkh Hai Aahan

As a new iteration of the ongoing project "Variations of Sounds, Traveling between a Barrel and a Heart," a collaborative performance was created utilizing the Instruments/Sound Sculpture I make from decommissioned firearms. The firearms are sourced from the Art is My Weapon initiative in Minneapolis, and the decommissioning is done by the Police Department. Musician Matthew Rahaim developed a composition titled "Surkh Hai Aahan" based on the Instrument/Sound Sculpture "Jîwan," which I have created. Jîwan (pronounced Jeewan) is a Kurdish name derived from Jîn (Life). In the Fall of 2023, the musical piece was performed and this is the video documentation of the performance in which Mathew played the Jîwan, I played Daff and Galina played Violin. Matthew created the composition for Jîwan, Violin, and Daff.
