ONE OF MANY
PERFORMANCE, COLLABORATION WITH NOOSHIN HAKIM AT NORD BECKEN ART SPACE IN KARLSRUHE, GERMANY, INSTINCT ART GALLERY, MINNEAPOLIS, 2016 AND HOPKINS CENTER FOR ARTS MN 2019.
"One of Many" is a participatory performance during which by a third person a barrier is created in the space with which the audience is being split between two groups. One group within the barrier and another outside. They have the choice to stay in with the artists or move out. At such point, the two artists have already blindfolded one another and by touch and other senses they start to blindfold and tag whomever in the barrier, displace and rearrange their location or their bodily positions. When everyone is blindfolded then artists begin to find them and remove the blindfold and hand it over to the person as a souvenir of the experience. In the end, the artists through touch find one another and remove each other’s blindfold. In this work, I have aimed to create an environment of transformative and transient shared experience in which disorientation is the new norm for half an hour. According to many of our participants, this experience allows them to further delve deeper into the concepts that this work is based upon.
